Shopping Around For a Crib

So your shopping around for baby cribs; where to begin? Any parent who has gone through this process before knows that it is no walk in the proverbial park. There are many different aspects to consider: what color do I want? How much do I want to spend? What constitutes as safe crib? These questions alone are enough to make you spend hours searching the internet. Luckily for you I have put together a little guide to help you in your search.

Let’s start by choosing a color. Do you want it to match the room exactly or just be a neutral color that blends with everything? Many new parents go with white as this color tends to be associated with innocents. It also blends well with basically any other color. The only downside is that smudge marks show up more on white than any other color. Another option could be black, which also tends to blend well with other colors. The only drawback is that it can make the room look a little dark. Other color like red, baby blue, yellow, etc. can blend well with some furniture but be careful or you might end up with a crib that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Price wise you want to be careful not to get something too cheap as it may end up being of low quality which might break easily. This is not to say that it is not possible to find a bargain just a word of caution to make sure that the crib is built solid and will not, God forbid, collapse and possible hurt your little one.

This brings me to my next topic; safety. I would venture to say that this is the most important thing to consider when buying a baby crib. You need to make sure that any crib you purchase meets with minimum safety standards. One way to do this is run a Google search on the name of the crib you want to buy and cross check it with the word “recall” to see if it may have been recalled in the past for some safety concern. Something else you need to be sure to check is that all the pieces are present for the crib you purchase as any missing pieces could result in loss of safety for your baby.
