Buying A Nursing Chair

A nursing chair is a great addition to any nursery. Since you will be spending hours with your newborn, you both should be as comfortable as possible. Sitting it a nursing chair and enjoying the gently rocking or gilding motion is a great way for the 2 of you to relax.

Is a nursing chair necessary? Depends on your taste of course. You don’t need a special chair when you have a baby, but nursing chairs are designed with comfort in mind for the parent and the new baby.

Do you want a glider nursing chair or a rocking nursing chair? Either one can be very nice to sit in and gently rock with your child. Rocking chairs are timeless and classic in design and function. We have all had the pleasure of sitting (and possibly falling asleep) in one. These have stood the test of time.

Gliders are a little different. Instead of rocking on an arc like a traditional rocker, a glider nursing chair goes back and forth on 2 tracks under the chair. This makes for a very smooth ride. In addition, you have the option of getting a matching ottoman or footstool that will also glide. This is great if you enjoy having your feet up while sitting and gliding with your baby.

When looking for either a rocker or glider, be sure there is plenty of room for you and your baby in the seat. You want to have plenty of elbowroom for breastfeeding your baby in the chair.

Check the warranty. This is more important with gliders since they have more moving parts than a rocker. Make sure the glider tracks are well made. This means they should be made of steel with metal ball bearing to make for a smooth glide.

Whether you choose a rocking nursing chair or a nursery glider, be prepared to enjoy rocking with your baby
